Hey Girls! I am soooo trying to catch up and was in Downtown Los Angeles this morning. I have actually been enjoying buying stuff from the street vendors these past few weeks that I've been going on Saturdays. I definitely need to start taking my camera so I can take pics for you guys. This morning I was putting my lunch away at work and this girl walked in with these awesomely ruffled heels on. I told her how cute they were and asked where she got them. She told me Target and she just got them like two days ago. So you know what I did right after work....Yes, I went straight over to Target and got the last pair in my size. As an added bonus, they were on sale for 15 bucks! I have been quite the bargain shopper lately. Last weekend I went to downtown LA and got a F21 skirt for $8 & and 2 knitted cardgians, one for $3 and one for $5. Here are the shoes I got today:

It has been two weeks since I've posted. I am so sorry and I miss you girls sooooo much.....I'm going to do a recap of my last two weeks and then show you what I've added to the store this week. Please leave your feedback on the items and please know, I so wish I had the time to go through all of your blogs every day like I used to. It's just the time, kids, house, work and more work....
Let's see, work is work. I am relearning what I used to do about five years ago and it's both frustrating and rewarding at the same time. I am so used to using my time how I feel like using it and being under someone else's time frame stresses me out. But I guess, welcome to the real world, right?
I decided against spending another $130 on highlighting my hair so I asked my bf to to just dye it and it came out really awesome. Pics to come soon, I'm excited!
Ummmm...I can't even keep up with my weekly magazines BUT I did come across a pic of my celebrity crush today and am seriously crushed. Wentworth Miller, you know the hottie from Prison Break. I have loved him for years and today People Magazine totally killed it for me by posting this picture:

I miss you all terribly :( As you all know, I started my "normal" office job this week....I wanted to come by and post and let you all know how it's going. So here it goes....
Number One.....I forgot how boring it is to work in an office for eight hours a day. Don't get me wrong, I am so grateful that I got an extra job, but really? Why does it have to be so boring?

Number Two......I was really looking forward to seeing what the girls are wearing in the office these days so I could be inspired and share. Not gonna happen. I forgot that the staples to a conservative office are four things: black flats, black heels, black pants and gray pants. I haven't been in an office for five years and it is sadly still the same. There are about three girls who I can say know how to work that fashion fabulousness and one of them is pregnant. I am soooooo going to try to talk her into a picture so you can see her. She is adorable! :)

Number Three.....I am so torn with if I want to get a permanent job doing this for the double income, (I'm currently temping). On one hand, I could really use the money for all of that debt, but on the other hand, I cannot imagine my life for the next I don't know how many years working in an office like this. Everyone is so nice to me, but I so miss my kids and my life. Input would be awesome :)

Number Four....I have not had the time to network with my girls like I was before. Sooooo....if you're a blogger with over one hundred followers and are interested in doing a post for me in an item from my store, email me! jenpolo1979@yahoo.com. I figure this is the easiest way :)

Soooooo....I leave you with a few pics of clothing that I'm seeing in the office everyday, I'm disappointed and I probably shouldn't be....Oh, and the BTW, these are not meant to be cute, just the truth.....

I'll be joining the nine to five working world on Monday. Let me just say that I am not looking forward to it. I have not worked in an office for five years and needless to say, I have nothing to wear. Being that I have yet to get a paycheck, I need a few inexpensive pieces to get me through until I actually get paid. So, I will be going to F21 today. I am so sorry that I am so behind on catching up with your blog posts lately! Please know that I miss you all and I miss it here! I have been running around like crazy for Easter and trying to get it together with my store and my new job too! So I went shopping the other day at Target, (thanks Nik!) and got two dresses, a skirt and a black top for my job for $90! Yay! I wore one of the dresses the other day so I just thought I'd share it with you. I've been talking non-stop about florals so now I'm about to practice what I preach :

Red for Spring? Yes, please!!!

When I think about Spring, I always think of soft pastels, bows and ruffles. While I love all of these things, I also love to vamp it up too. I was thinking back to last Spring and my favorite dress. It was a red cotton tube top dress that I bought from F21. When ever I would go out wearing that, I would get stopped all the time by women asking where I got this dress. I was in Old Town Orange yesterday afternoon having lunch. After we had lunch at a yummy little Cuban place, we decided to look around at all of the antique shops. After laughing at all of the naked statues and Partridge Family tin lunchboxes, we left and came across this fantastic store...Heavenly Hostess. We literally spent about an hour in this small store, there were soooo many cool things in there. They sell fancy aprons, among other things. I wish I would have had my camera with me but didn't know this store was there. So I came home and was excited to see that they have a website: http://www.heavenlyhostess.com. Don't get me wrong, I cook every day because I have to, but not because I love to. I don't think I would use most of the aprons for hard core cooking either because I'd have to kill the spaghetti sauce that splashed onto my fantastic apron, but....I think they're so awesome for dinner parties and just to have fun in once in a while. I became obsessed with hair flowers last year when I started seeing my friend Julie wearing them. She's really creative and even makes her own. So I picked one up one day at Tilly's and just fell in love. I bought different flowers in different colors and would wear them every day last Summer. I quit wearing them during the Winter because I just didn't feel like they went with the Winter clothes. These past few days, it's been really warm here in California so I picked them back up. Maxi Dresses.....

So two years ago, I decided to try out selling maxi dresses and they sold like crazy. Last year, I thought the trend may have died but decided to give it a try again and they flew off the racks again. So this year, I was thinking that maxi dresses would surely be dead but yet again, they're selling. I even read that rompers were replacing the maxi dresses in People but I think they're wrong about this one.
I scoured the internet for hours this morning to find cool maxi dresses and let me tell you, I had a really hard time finding ones that struck me. I was checking out the Anna Scholz site this morning after seeing a few pieces that I fell in love with. I wanted to check out the whole Black Label, which is more affordable than the premium White Label collection. After all the hype, promises and international outcry, fashion's still calling normal girls fat.

Coco Rocha is the latest victim of fashion's irresponsible, unattainable demand that young women - some barely into their teens - be emaciated.

I was stunned after reading this article and looking at this lovely young woman's pictures. How could anyone in the entire world consider this chick too fat for anything?!?!

I had planned on doing a post today on fashion pieces but it will have to wait...This woman has not an inch to pinch. You can tell that she is probably below her ideal weight and watches EVERYTHING that she eats. I really just wanted to quickly comment on how the fashion industry has gone too far. They are asking these girls to be walking clothes hangers and not actual people. Read: If she were any thinner, I would be seriously afraid for her! Please take a look at the whole article. Shame on the fashion industry for pressuring these girls to starve themselves and I really do hope that they raise the "sample size" to at least a size 4.....OMG ;(

Just a side note: I do not normally post about these things, but after reading this article and looking at her....No words....

I know that I'm always saying this, but I am so lucky to have been able to meet the wonderful girls that I have through blogs. I met Tiffany recently through her blog www.fatshopaholic.com. What struck me most about her was of course, her awesome style but also the huge smile that she wears in all of her pictures. I really feel like I know her sometimes when I'm looking at her blog pics. I was able to catch up with her recently through an email interview:

Can you describe a little about your personal style? Sure. I think my personal style is all over the place. I love the 90’s so, the bright colors and bold prints of that time certainly worked it’s way into my personal style. I also love to play with textures like lace with studs and things like that. Fashion Inspirations/Icons: Like any good fat girl I must cite Beth Ditto. I also love the styles of T.V. characters Denise Huxtable from the Cosby Show and Clarissa from Clarissa explains it all. I Love denise for her mens wear and over sized clothes and clarissa for her bright colors and prints. I also love Amanda palmer of the Dresden Dolls and Kelis.

What you love most about fashion: I love that fashion is like the prelude to who you are. When people see you they see your clothes first so, through fashion you can express anything you want. You can express the way you feel that day or your personality period. I also love fashion as art, like things that aren’t everyday wear but, look great walking down a run way.

Although as fat women we all want as many fashion options for us as straight size women I love that with fat fashion you have to work a little harder to be unique because then every outfit feels special and you know that no one else will look like you.

Valentines Day Outfit Disaster...

So last Friday, I decided it would be nice to go all out this year and to treat myself to a Valentine's Day outfit, complete with matching undergarments. So online I went, and found a great dress:

So I paid extra on both (2 separate companies!) for 3 day shipping to make sure that they would be here in time for V Day. So off to JCPenneys I went to pick out my undergarments and this is what I picked out:

So all this week I waited..and waited..and waited..no package from either company! So yesterday I finally decided to see what was going on and it seems UPS said they couldn't gain entry into our place and had left a note. I have never had a problem with them delivering until now. So it was 5:00 yesterday and off I go to the next city to the UPS location to pick up the dress. We get there and there was a long line with no one behind the counter for 20 minutes. Long story short, I got the dress right before 6:00.
On to the shoes, I called that company and they didn't mail them out in time so they weren't scheduled to be here until Monday! Seriously..grrrr...So I had them refund my shipping and found out what store had the shoes so I could just go and buy them in person. Turns out the store was over 20 miles away but I still had my dream of the perfect outfit so off I went. I found the shoes, came home and finally tried the outfit on. Guess what....I kind of hate the dress!
Oh yeah, earlier in the day I got my hair done, (took over 3 hours!) but I decided to cut some bangs and brighten it up a bit:

I'm sure I'm not the only one out there who has a horrible time finding the right foundation and powder. I have oily skin on some parts and extremely dry skin on other parts of my face, ugh. I have searched high and low for the right make up that would control the shiny parts and stay on. I have tried Elizabeth Arden, Mac, Chanel, bla bla bla bla....Until one day a friend of mine mentioned Prescriptives to me. I had always loved her make up so I decided to give it a try. I was color matched at the counter and given the Virtual Matte foundation and powder to try. I have never found anything else that compares.

That's why I was in a panic when I found out that Prescriptives is going out of business :( Global wholesale distribution ended on January 31, 2010 and the website will be selling their inventory while it lasts.
Do any of you know of a great oil controlling foundation and/or powder? Suggestions please!

Ten Procedures In One Day......

This has nothing to do with fashion buuuuttttt......I was reading through People Magazine earlier and just couldn't resist posting because I would just love to hear your comments...
23 year old Heidi Montag recently has 10 plastic surgery procedures done in one day. Here is the list of procedures done:
1. Mini Brow Lift
2. Botox in forehead and frown area
3. Nose job revision
4. Fat injections in cheeks, nasolabial folds and lips
5. Chin reduction
6. Neck liposuction
7. Ears pinned back
8. Breast augmentation revision
9. Liposuction on waist, hips and inner and outer thighs
10.Buttock augmentation

Ahhhh, Hollywood...Although it does make me sad that such a young lady went to this extreme to feel perfect, it is ultimately her body and her choice so who am I to judge? However, it just makes me have all the more respect and admiration for those who have imperfections and choose to live with them and love themselves all the more.
I, myself, have nothing against plastic surgery or procedures. I think it really is a personal choice. I have had three children, (along with three c-sections), and had contemplated a tummy tuck to correct it for a long time. But in the end, I chose to accept it and deal with it because it's just not worth the pain or the money to me personally. I do have friends that would strongly disagree and would never live with a post baby body.
So I'd love to hear your input on this. What do you think? All input is welcome :)

2010 Grammy Dresses....OMG!!!

Okay, so I'm sure most of you were watching the Grammys and saw what most celebrities were wearing. Okay, so the whole time I was wondering what was going to be said online about Lady Gaga's dress. I have a feeling that it's going to be a bit torn here as fashion can be interpreted in so many ways. Here's a picture of the dress:

Personally, I would never leave the house like this BUT I would have been sooooooo disappointed had she worn a classic, glamorous dress. She entertains me and I can't wait to see what she's wearing at events. What do you guys think?
And then....there was Beyonce...I know some may disagree but I actually loved her dress. I think that nude color was perfect on her and the cut of the dress was awesomely flattering on her curves. Here's a picture of her dress:

Can you describe a little about your personal style?: Currently I'd say my style is very eclectic. At this point, I don't think I've mastered my own distinct style, I think it's more of, I buy things that I like and try to throw them together with things already in my wardrobe! Although on a general basis I'd say my style seems to switch from laid back casual to quite girly and classy. I love anything with a bow!

Fashion Inspirations/Icons: Due to a lack of funds, I find it difficult trying to emulate the style of dressing which I admire so I tend to focus less on what I aspire to wear and more on what is actually achievable. I do love looking at the different ways in which others compile outfits though, be it celebrities, bloggers, or people on the street. Generally I don't have a preferred 'look' if it's worn well I will probably like it. As for fashion icons, I love Zooey Deschanel's style, she rarely doesn't look cute. I also love the style of Lourdes Leon and Agyness Deyn, it doesn't always work but I admire their confidence and originality and the way they seem to look effortlessly cool. On the other hand, I also love Kim Kardashian's classic sense of style, she wears basic key pieces and always manages to look well put together and fabulous.

What you love most about fashion: I love the freedom of expression that fashion allows us. The way in which you can dress to suit your mood or even to change it! I believe there are few rules when it comes to dressing, fashion is a journey and it's always fun to learn and adapt along the way.

Last night I was going through my Facebook updates when I saw posts by Gabi from YFF and Christina from Musings with a link to an article in The Guardian about plus sized fashion blogs. I was practically jumping up and down last night when I read it. It looks like both big companies and the fashion world are finally taking notice of the plus sized fashion world thanks to these smart, beautiful, ladies.
As someone who runs a small plus sized online store, all of my marketing is done online. I check my traffic reports daily to find out where my business is coming from. Over a year ago, I started noticing that a lot of my traffic was coming from these blogs. I owe so much to these ladies, almost all that were mentioned in this article have helped me out. I was reading through Allure today and came across a page where they asked celebrities what trend they think should just die...Here are a few of the responses:

Veronica Webb: "I'm over the '80's. I did it once and then twice. I think I'm done."

Hilary Duff: "Two, actually: I'm not feeling the baggy-crotch pants. Some girls can pull them off. And shoulder pads. I'm five feet two. They don't work for me."

Stephanie March: "When the harem pant ends, I'm going to say, "I'm glad I wasn't on that train."

Okay, so don't hate me, but I'm going to have to agree with part of what Kirsten Dunst said, some girls can pull off the harem pants, but I am not one of them. And, when ever I try them on, I keep finding myself wanting to do the 'U Can't Touch This' dance. :) Oh well, I tried...

Can you describe a little about your personal style? You know it's sort of difficult because I think it develops further every day. I think a great deal of it is influenced by the 40's and the 70's...those decades specifically. I see a great deal of myself in the fashions of those decades. I also am driven by simplicity(I hate to over accessorize)and I love a bit of edge and structure. I think being a musician I can't help being influenced by rock and roll and the role that music has played in fashion.

Can you describe a little about your personal style? I like classic clothing with tailored silhouettes, feminine styles with defined waists and full skirts. I'm a real skirts-and-dresses girl (I used to have tantrums as a child when Mum tried putting me in trousers. It had to have a skirt, and it had to twirl!) These days I'm a bit more tolerant of pants and jeans, but I still like to have a bit of girly something - brooches, statement shoes, a bit of nonsense somewhere to inject a bit of personality into the outfit.

Inspirations/Icons: I take a bit of inspiration from the media - TV & Movies provide a lot of ideas. Shows like Mad Men and Pushing Daisies have a great retro aesthetic. I also like to read other fashion blogs too see what's out there (my current favourite's Emily Martin's Some Girls Wander - http://theblackapple.typepad.com/somegirlswander which just makes me want to cry sometimes it's so gorgeous), and I'm on www.etsy.com every day. I'd like to be more adventurous with mixing colours and prints, so when I look at fashion magazines or catalogues that's usually what I'm looking for. I don't tend to follow "trends" as such, so I usually just try to trust my own instincts.

What you love most about fashion: I love that you can present your own personality in a certain way through fashion. It can be like a billboard for yourself, proclaiming the kind of person you are.

Can you describe a little about your personal style?
I think I go for sweet chic with an edge. My closet is full of delicate fabrics that I try to balance with a good dose of leather or structure. I am very detail orientated when it comes to my clothing, so I love a well-placed button, seam, or bow.

I’m also shoe crazy, so I believe shoes are a huge part of my personal style. I think my shoe collection has a good mix of classic shapes, architectural form, and color.

Many of my outfits are really just dressed up casual: a good pair of jeans, a visually strong jacket or top, and (hopefully) stunning shoes. Obviously, there are occasions when I have to step it up, in which case my I try to go for an understated look if the event is formal and a more daring look (e.g. bodycon, vibrant colors) if it’s a night out on the town.

Fashion Inspirations/Icons:
In my mind I imagine a girl who lives in Paris and sneaks out at night wearing some of her mother’s (finer) clothing or shoes, which she has mixed with her own more girlish fashion sense. I try to dress like her.

My friends Gabi and Christina are also huge inspirations.

What you love most about fashion:
I love that you can express meaning and mood through what you wear. Some fashion definitely rises to the level of art and it’s amazing to think that you can spend your day wearing a piece of art. It’s also just so much fun.

Beauty Review: Lash Injection Mascara By Too Faced....

I was cursed with light, thin eyelashes. As I've said before, I love the Hollywood glam look, which means thick, black lashes. I've tried every brand of mascara you can think of. I've used 4 different mascaras together to get the look of thick, black lashes. So I'm always on the hunt for the best thickening mascara out there. Months ago, I was in the Sephora store and asked the salesperson what the best mascara would be for this and was pointed towards Lash Injection by Too Faced. So I gladly paid the $20 and went home to try it on. I LOVED it. Though I do have to constantly separate the lashes as I'm applying it, (or else it would look like I was wearing spiders on my eyes), it is the best thickening mascara I have ever tried. Oh, and I don't go to Sephora for it any more either. It always sells on Ebay for $10. So on to the before and after pics:

My take on the V Mag 'One Size Fits All' Issue

So I have been noticing that there's been a lot of talk about the V Mag issue featuring Crystal Renn and her thinner counterpart Jacquelyn Jablonski. I was pretty happy to see a "plus sized" model next to the very thin model standing next to her. I think Crystal Renn looks beautiful and much better than the size zero model in each and every picture:

Here's my only problem with the pictures: it really appears as if they seriously photoshopped weight off of Crystal Renn. I could be wrong but I was browsing through other shots of her online and found this pretty recent shot of her from Glamour Magazine:

That's quite a noticeable difference in size. So my question is, what is the point then? If the average sized model (Crystal Renn) is photoshopped to look still thinner, the message that being beautiful at any size is completely lost. Just my opinion.

So, I've been grappling a lot with my wardrobe recently. I seem to have lots and lots and lots of summer clothing and just not enough long-sleeved shirts, sweaters, and more.

That said, since it's time to strap down and save money (and the fact that I am once again on a student budget), I can't always afford to just go out and buy those shirts and stuff. So I'm trying something new--I'm trying to incorporate summery clothes into winter. I have a buttload of dresses that I absolutely love, but sometimes feel I can't wear because of the weather.

Here's what I tried:

These earrings were made from beads from this bracelet:

which used to be on stretchy cord and then broke. The beads are made from paper, by women in Africa, and the proceeds went right back to them. I got this bracelet at a place in Portland, Oregon, called Global Exchange. If you guys are around, definitely check it out!....

Jenifer's got some really nice pieces at Jen's Fashion Plus, and the prices are great.

This dress is very sweet - probably suited to someone slightly less chesty than I, but it's still got an endearingly school-girl feel to it, and the quality's very good.

I'll be keeping Jen's Fashion Plus favourited, and will be dropping in regularly, because she stocks the shop with exactly the kind of classic, stand-the-test-of-time styles that appeal to me the most.

I met Jackie earlier this year on Myspace. I asked her to do some posts for me and fell in love with the way that she put my pieces together into outfits.

My personal style is a little bit girly with a hard edged hipster vibe. I love to pair feminine details like bows and ruffles with black leather and torn jeans. I like my fashion to be unexpected but always sophisticated.

What i love most about fashion is its ability to show people a side of your personality before they ever meet you. This past Halloween, I came across the best deal ever on my costume on eBay. A sexy sailor girl dress with a matching hat. The problem? Trying to find matching shoes.
